This new course is specifically designed for students who have a good grasp of the basics of the Italian language and wish to develop the four skills of speaking, reading, writing, and listening comprehension, working on a variety of activities based on selected popular Italian movies.

The first of the three canticles of the Divine Comedy, Inferno describes the experience of Dante Alighieri in hell, during his imaginary journey in the afterlife: the course examines selected cantos of this medieval literary masterpiece on human frailty, the power of religion, politics, poetry and love.

The course -- for students who have completed at least 3 courses in Italian -- focuses on the reading of selected cantos from the Divine Comedy and the preparation of a play to be recited for the audience of the Center.

Selections from contemporary Italian authors of poetry and narrative. Each session consists of brief lectures, readings, and class discussions based on assigned works. The literary texts are examined within their historical and cultural context and for what they communicate to today’s readers.

For students of all levels, a course designed to explore some major buildings and the urban landscapes of Italy. Cities such as Venice, Rome and Florence will be the focus of special attention, as we take a detailed view at their emblematic monuments, the squares, the different neighborhoods, and the buildings (religious and secular). The course wants to explain how these elements express bonds between people, and above all how they originate spaces charged with memories of many generations of city-dwellers. In English

Cultural readings, historical documents, literature and films are examined in this course and considered as parallel paths that bring us to discover the various portraits, often contradictory, of contemporary Italian society. Films are in Italian with English subtitles.

Rossellini's and De Sica's neorealism, Fellini's grotesque and magical world, Antonioni's aesthetics, Visconti's sense of decadence in history, Amelio's films as social and political commitment, are some choices of the subjects and themes of this course. Italian movies, with subtitles, are viewed at home and then discussed in class.

For students with an Intermediate-Advanced knowledge of the Italian language this 8 week course introduces eight Italian movies directed by Federico Fellini that cover a span of almost forty years of his life, and it examines his unique art in film making.

Following the evolution of the Italian canzone from its origin to nowadays students listen to the most popular songs that marked a span of the Italian history and culture in the 20th century.

The course includes a class by class review of Latin forms, grammar, and syntax through a first hand experience of ancient texts.

This course is designed for those who do not have the time to study the Italian language, but who would like to plan their visit to Italy knowing practical information of the country and its people prior to departure.

This course is offered only in the months of May-June. It may be offered in other months of the year upon request of an entire group.

This introductory language course aims to develop children's skills in speaking, reading, understanding and writing, in a lively and entertaining atmosphere. Some light homework is assigned. Ages 6-12.

Learn how to prepare several popular Italian dishes by actually cooking with the instructor. Each session also offers explanations on culinary customs, historical curiosities on ingredients, techniques, and social customs related to food.

This course can be useful for students who have never taken Italian before and also for who has taken Elementary Italian at level 1 and wish to review the material covered at this level.
