80 Years of Italian Life: Portraits of Italy from World War II to the Present
8 weeks
(2 hour sessions)
Italian society has changed drastically in the past eighty years, experiencing fascism, war, poverty, the rise of industrialization, the “dolce vita”, economic boom, terrorism, and post- modern lifestyles of the 90’s until today. Cultural readings, historical documents, literature and films are examined in this course and considered as parallel paths that bring us to discover the various portraits, often contradictory, of contemporary Italian society.
