Italian through the Opera
10 weeks
(2 hour sessions)
This course is designed for students who have already completed all the elementary levels of the Italian language or have an intermediate/advanced knowledge of it. The course introduces opera as a means of learning the language reinforcing structures and syntax while using the vocabulary, the stories, and excerpts from librettos of the following operas: The Barber of Seville, La Bohème, Pagliacci, Othello, Tosca and La Traviata. This course introduces the famous characters, plots, settings, and themes of these masterpieces of the Italian music. A 8 week course focuses on two to three operas; a 16 week course examines all the operas listed above. Segments or selected acts are shown on videocassette in class.
