Readings in Latin Literature
8 weeks
(2 hour sessions)
The course includes a class by class review of Latin forms, grammar, and syntax through a first hand experience of ancient texts. The selected texts are representative of the most beautiful works from the past by great Roman leaders such as Cicero and Caesar, and by poets like Catullus and Virgil. Readings include also ecclesiastical literature like the Latin Vulgate Bible, patristic and medieval texts by theologians such as Augustine and Aquinas, and liturgical texts of the Church. Expertise in Latin is not a requirement, just some familiarity with the forms (declensions and conjugations) and a passion for ancient Rome and its language
